Castelo Branco

Castelo Branco is the capital of its district and lies in the Beira Baixa region of Central Portugal. The city grew around the Templar castle and the Episcopal Palace, now part of the Francisco Tavares Proença Júnior Museum. The Baroque Jardim do Paço Episcopal is its main landmark, with staircases, king statues and azulejos. Castelo Branco embroidery, made in silk, is a recognised local craft.
